Folk Pop

The wood objects from 2014 have evolved into what I call Folk Pop. These works retain the funky folk hand crafted
sensibility while exploring new ground by adding shaped canvases and wall hanging sculptures . The new work explores my notion of a certain Americana that affected me deeply when I was maturing in front of the afternoon TV. I am thinking of the Americana which was offered to me through the work of Madison Avenue and their clever use of product advertising. I can recall vividly through the commercials, celebrity endorsements (my favorite Saturday morning cartoon characters), catchy candy jingles and the attractive packaging; Brand X was there and will always be there to help me be the best me that I could be. The car you drove, the clothes you wore, the candy you ate, each one was tailored to make you live the allusion that you were either unique or you were part of the in crowd. The products we used were to let people know what type of person you were. We all had our favorites. Please also see my Folk Pulp page as I expand this world further into the realm of Americana ephemera.
