Wood Objects
Wood as a material has a deep meaning for me. You could say I was raised on it. In my family, there are three generations of Sharman in the carpentry trades. My father in his youth built two houses for us to live in. He also made wood toys for my brother and I. The best was a miniature Model-T that you could actually steer. Wood was always around. I have used wood in my art as a support, as a frame and as a carving and shaping material. I began this series early this summer, triggered by my need to paint our house. The pile of wood that was amassed from cleaning was inspiring as well as the small samples of house paint that we were investing in. These objects are personal, each a part of my history. |
