Non Representational Paintings
This year I committed myself to making non representational paintings. These paintings are produced by the application of house paint ( I find that the array of colors and the easy access to small jars which are economical a solution to my financial situation.) on to a support that is made by combining older paintings and assemblages and wrapping them in multiple materials such as canvas, linen, muslin and burlap. The surfaces for the most part are matte, with little sheen as I find I like the softness of the flat paint. My painted surfaces deal with pictorial space with the simplest concepts of color relationship and overlapping shapes. With each painting, I strive for an intuitive composition, building each painting by letting it grow organically, adjusting elements as the process evolves.
